Struwwelpeter is a bit different from the poetry book of my youth. The book was written and illustrated in by a physician for his 3 year old son. The book contains 10 poems that serve as warnings to naughty boys and girls.

The title poem is about a messy boy (struwwel means slovenly) with his uncombed hair and dirty by: 9. Der Struwwelpeter is one of those picture books I grew up with, and read and heard repeatedly as a child, so I have an unreasonable amount of love for it, even though it's kind of awful.

All credit goes to my German-speaking mom, although I'm not sure if she shared this book with my siblings and me because she thought it was a funny book or was trying to scare us straight/5.
